Ayurvedic Cleansing Practices: Lifestyle and therapeutic interventions

Ayurveda, the traditional medical system of India, includes a wide range of interventions for cleansing, rejuvenation and healthful living. After giving an overview of Ayurveda’s basic principles and practices, Dr. Guha will offer tips how you and your patients can maintain optimal health. She will also outline the therapeutic value of panchakarma (traditional detox processes) in today’s clinical practice, specifying precautions and contraindications, and dispelling myths.

Dr. Amala Guha, PhD, MPH, MA, is assistant professor of Medicine and Immunology and director of Complementary and Alternative Supportive Care (CASC) at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She is the founding president of the International Society for Ayurveda and Health (ISAH), editor-in-chief of ELEMENTS (www.ayurvedahealth.org, casc.uchc.edu) and offers Ayurvedic consultations.
